I specialise in employment law, working mainly in Leeds and London, advising on a wide range of employment matters, providing commercial, pragmatic advice and solutions across various sectors including: financial services; sports; media; fashion/luxury brands; recruitment; travel and technology.
Employment disputes can be both challenging and stressful, and clients have praised me for my personable and commercially focused solutions and responsive service. My main aim is to deliver a positive outcome, dealing with issues in a timely and effective manner with the client’s objectives at the forefront. Whether I am acting for employers or employees I have the ability to adapt to situations and respond effectively with jargon free advice.
I provide both ongoing employment law/HR support to businesses as well as representing both employers and employees in the employment tribunal. My expertise includes:
• Disciplinary and grievance procedures
• Contracts of employment and associated policies and procedures
• Advising on exit strategies for senior executives
• Tribunal litigation in relation to unfair dismissal, discrimination and unlawful deduction from wages
As an extension of my employment law practice, I have a particular interest in sports law (particularly in the football sector). Being a member of LawInSport I maintain a passionate interest and extensive network in this burgeoning area of sports law. My main areas of expertise and interest are disputes, regulatory and disciplinary matters relevant to players, coaches, clubs and organisations. I also have experience in player and manager contracts and player transfers and I have links with several agents.
I have previously produced a booklet and guide for presentation and distribution at a Football related Seminar on “The Impact of Human Rights on the F.A. Disciplinary Procedures.” The Seminar was attended by F.A. Premier League clubs and Football League clubs. I have also been interviewed on Radio Aire in Leeds, giving a legal analysis of Leeds United’s high court proceedings against the Football League and the decision by HMRC to withdraw legal proceedings against the club.
“Leon immediately understood my case without me having to explain several times and was both highly professional and accurate with his advice from the outset. I found Leon to be knowledgeable and experienced and this gave me the confidence to represent me. I was not in anyway put under pressure to take my case further and Leon was nothing but positive and I really believed he was on my side. This was all followed up with lots of written communication and updates on a regular basis and I never had to to chase Leon for information. The conclusion was a successful close to the case in my favour and I can’t thank Leon enough for helping me from the outset.”
